About Heritage.KRD

Preserving a civilization
for generations to come

Heritage.KRD is the living digital archive of Kurdish civilization — built to ensure that 4,000 years of history, art, language, and culture are never lost or forgotten.

Making Kurdish heritage
accessible to everyone

The Kurdish people have one of the richest, oldest, and most resilient civilizations on Earth. Yet much of that heritage remains scattered, undocumented, or at risk. Heritage.KRD exists to change that — one page, one story, one tradition at a time.

Our values

Accuracy

Every fact, date, and cultural detail is researched carefully. We strive for the same rigour as an academic archive while remaining accessible to all.

Openness

Heritage belongs to everyone. Heritage.KRD is free, open access, and always will be. No paywalls, no gatekeeping — just knowledge.

Community

Built by and for the Kurdish community and those who love its culture. We welcome contributions, corrections, and collaboration from anyone.

Preservation

Oral traditions, handcrafts, regional dialects, and folk stories are disappearing. We document them before they are lost forever.

Multilingualism

Kurdish heritage speaks in many tongues — Kurmanji, Sorani, Zazaki, Arabic, and more. We aim to reflect that linguistic richness.

Growth

The archive is never finished. We continuously expand, update, and deepen our coverage of every aspect of Kurdish civilization.

Why we built this

The idea for Heritage.KRD was born from a simple frustration: searching for reliable, comprehensive, and beautifully presented information about Kurdish history and culture online often led to scattered Wikipedia articles, outdated PDFs, or content buried behind academic paywalls.

Kurdish civilization deserves better. The Kurds are among the oldest peoples in the world — inheritors of Mesopotamian civilizations, creators of magnificent poetry and music, builders of mountain citadels that have stood for millennia. That story deserves a home worthy of it.

"A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."

Heritage.KRD is that home. We cover everything from the ancient Median Empire to Newroz celebrations today, from the Dengbêj tradition of oral poetry to Kurdish cinema, from the sacred valley of Lalish to the Kurdish diaspora in Europe and beyond.

We are just getting started. The archive grows with every contribution, and we invite everyone — Kurdish or not — to be part of preserving this remarkable civilization.

Part of something bigger

Heritage.KRD is the anchor of a growing family of Kurdish digital platforms, each focused on a different dimension of the culture.
